Rheinmetall and GDELS put the Biber armored vehicle on wheels. The motorized basis is provided by an 8×8 carrier vehicle from the HX family.
Rheinmetall and GDELS see the so-called Anaconda as the latest version of the well-known Beaver bridge. The Beaver’s laying mechanism is installed on an 8×8 HX2 carrier vehicle. GDELS produces the actual bridge, while Rheinmetall provides the required truck. The resulting vehicle will be used as a fixed bridge for medium and heavy forces. The merger is expected to allow Anaconda to draw on the existing infrastructure of the successful HX series.
Both beavers and trucks in the HX family have been a commercial success for the manufacturers. Some 300 Beavers are in service with the German armed forces and NATO partners. Another 16,000 HX family military trucks are in service worldwide. With the Anaconda, GDELS and Rheinmetall hope to build on this success.
